 Ceramic spacers for shunt reactors which fit to customer specifications are used to obtain radial distance between core elements. These ceramic spacers are tightly glued on both sides to the core elements with special adhesive under pressure. The shunt reactor core is made from radially laminated iron packages, while ceramic spacers ensure precise compliance with the specific air-gap requirements. The gapped core limb consists of modules of core steel blocks with stiff ceramic spacers. Modules are accurately stacked and cemented together to make a solid core limb column. The magnetic field in the core limb creates pulsating forces with the double network frequency across all air gaps, which amounts to tens of tons, and the reactor core must be very stiff to eliminate vibrations and excessive noise. It also puts high demands on the mechanical integrity of the design concept to withstand these conditions over the lifetime of the reactor.
